Lake of the Ozarks is the #1 recreational lake in the United States. With more shoreline than California there is 10s of thousands of boats. Many in the Midwest area are considering purchasing a boat and moving here. However, owning a boat comes with a significant responsibility: keeping it in excellent shape. A common question among boat owners is, "How much does boat detailing cost?" In this post, we will explore the costs related to boat detailing and cleaning. Clarifying the difference between buffing and ceramic coating, and share personal perspectives as a local detailer.
Understanding Boat Detailing Costs
Boat detailing costs can vary based on several factors, including the size, condition of boat, and the level of detailing needed. Here’s what you can expect:
Basic Cleaning: A simple wash and spray wax service (Maintenance wash) typically ranges from $7 to $10 per foot. For Rogers LOTO Detailing we typically charge $10 for a quick cleaning. This does not including any cleaning of the interior of the boat. For example, if you have a 25-foot boat, the cost would be approximately $175 to $250.
Full Detailing (most popular choice): If you opt for a complete cleaning , which includes interior services, prices generally range from $10 to $25 per foot depending on who your hire. This means that a 25-foot boat could cost anywhere from $250 to $625, depending on the provider and any additional services you select. We typically only charge $12-$15 per foot for a "Full Detail".
Buff & Wax: If your boat requires specific care like heavy oxidation removal and waxing you could face very high charges. Sometimes a detailer is able to easily remove oxidation with a buffer and follow it with hand wax. While other times your boat may need multiple steps, in some cases even wet-sanding. Typical buffing can range from $20-$50 per foot. We offer very competitive prices for buffing.
Being aware of these price ranges will help you plan your budget and select the services that fit your needs.

Buffing vs. Ceramic Coating
When protecting your boat, you may face a choice between buffing and ceramic coating. Let’s clarify the distinctions.
Buffing
Buffing utilizes a machine buffer to eliminate surface scratches, oxidation, and other blemishes. This process significantly improves the appearance of your boat and is often a step necessary before applying any protective product. We believe if you follow with high quality wax it provides great protection for the money compared to ceramic coating.
Cost: Buffing generally costs between $20 to $50 per foot. We typically charge $25 per foot.
Ceramic Coating
Ceramic coating acts as a protective shield for your boat, creating a durable surface that can last for several years with appropriate upkeep. This option is especially beneficial for boats frequently exposed to tough weather conditions. However, just because you choose this service from a local detailer does not mean you won't need to ever rinse off or clean your boat, it just makes it easier!
Cost: For ceramic coating, you should budget a lot. Sometimes it cost from $40-$100 per foot. Due to this very high cost this is why most decide to stick with wax. We agree with that decision as your boat has enough maintenance costs already!
Is it worth it? Many boat owners find that investing in ceramic coating pays off over time. Makes routine cleaning easier, but is only used by a small percent of boaters who are very particular about their boat being spotless.
Personal Opinion as Local Detailer
Every local detailer is going to have similar services. However, prices and quality can very. We at Rogers LOTO Detailing are not only detailers, but boaters ourselves. We believe in top-notch quality that doesn't break the bank. For us, in the Midwest area here at Lake of the Ozarks we don't see any reason why you should be spending more than $15 per foot for a "Full Detail". However, cost for wax and seat protection can increase price. We are fully insured and top ranked Boat Detailing company on Boat Planet.

Additional Considerations
Understanding boat detailing costs is essential, but several other factors also influence the final price:
Location: Prices can vary based on your area. In high-demand areas like Lake of the Ozarks, you might see slightly elevated prices "in season" (May-August)
Customization: Tailor your detailing package to meet your specific needs. Some detailers provide bundled services at a reduced rate, making it more cost-effective.
Your Guide to Informed Boat Care
Knowing the costs of boat detailing and cleaning is imperative for any boat owner at Lake of the Ozarks and other lakes. Whether you choose a simple wash, full detail or ceramic coating, understanding the financial aspects allows you to make educated choices.
While buffing can temporarily enhance your boat's look, ceramic coating offers a more sustainable solution for protecting your beloved vessel long-term. Moreover, scheduling regular cleaning can keep your boat in top shape. I have met some people who have a brand new looking boat and have never even buffed. Proper protection from the elements and routine cleaning is best advice I can give.
